Film Ideas for Screenings

Unfortunately, there are no recent videos dealing with the Green Scare in the context of the current cases. There is a good video about Jeff "Free" Luers' case called 22/8 (see below) that shows the precedence for the current situation. You may, however, want to show something else that may be more popular and still relevant to the matter at hand (if not directly addressing it) as a way to attract a larger audience. In either case, it would be good to have someone who can speak to the audience about the current Green Scare and tell folks where they can go for more information. Below are some ideas for films; if you have some of your own, please email them to greenscare@mutualaid.org

Sourcecode Episode: Eco Dissent/Not Terrorism (2006) (FSTV)
(29 min.) In George Bush's America, if you're an environmentalist, you're a terrorist. SourceCode examines civil disobedience under the Patriot Act. Come to Prescott, Arizona, where a recent sting resulted in the death of one person accused under the new definition of terrorism. Hear from a former Earthfirst!er on why she took direct action against a power company. ACLU and Center for Constitutional Rights tell you what risks you face in defending the environment. Ruckus Society makes a case for nonviolent civil disobedience. And a video of the first monkeywrenching action [sic] with Edward Abbey at the Glen Canyon Dam. [GreenScare.org note: This aired in February and contains some information that is dated]

22/8: The Jeffrey Luers Story (2005)
(40 min.) This film, made by the Cascadia Media Collective in March 2005 features the background of Jeff's case and the motives for his actions from his perspective. It attempts to explain how the state has attempted to portray Jeff as an eco-terrorist leader, and the effects this has had on both the length of the sentence and his life behind bars.
