Thursday, December 7 - 7pm

Animas SDS, the Fort Lewis College chapter of Students for a Democratic Society, is proud to announce the Resist the Green Scare benefit event, in Durango, CO.

The benefit will be at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive, Durango, CO, in Noble Hall room 130 on Thursday, December 7th from 7 to 9:30 PM.

This event will be a benefit event for the NON-COOPERATING Green Scare defendants and Grand Jury resisters, and part of an International Day of Action & Solidarity with the defendants. The event is free, with a suggested donation of $5-$100, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds go to the non-cooperating defendants and grand jury resisters.

We will be screening Pickaxe, a feature-length documentary about a direct action forest defense campaign. It is a VERY powerful and provocative film. We will also be screening two short before the main feature, 22/8: The Jeffrey Luers Story and "Rod Coronado - A Voice for Liberation." (film synopses below)

Pickaxe: The Cascadia Free State Story
An eclectic mix of activists take a stand to protect an old growth forest from logging at Warner Creek in the Willamette National Forest of Oregon, blockading the logging road and repelling the State Police. Over months a community builds around the illegal blockade as it develops into the Cascadia Free State and similar actions spread across the region. Years after its release, Pickaxe has become a classic document of the potential for grassroots direct action to achieve victory against the forces of both government and big business. Lovingly crafted by the participants themselves, the film expertly presents every moment, from confrontation to celebration. [94 min.] - Watch it online

22/8: The Jeffrey Luers Story
[2005: US, Cascadia Media Collective] This film, made by the Cascadia Media Collective in March 2005 and finalized in early 2006 features the background of Jeff's case and the motives for his actions from his perspective. It attempts to explain how the state has attempted to portray Jeff as an eco-terrorist leader, and the effects this has had on both the length of the sentence and his life behind bars. [40 min.]

Rod Coronado - A Voice for Liberation
The fur industry's brutal exploitation of animals is exposed and linked to the genocide perpetrated against indigenous people in this short video featuring indigenous traditionalist and Animal Liberation Front activist Rod Coronado. [5 min.]

We hope to see you all there, and please, SPREAD THE WORD!
